Ingredients

  • 10 large jalapeños
  • 1 cup 168g whipped cream cheese
  • 1 cup 235g cheddar jack cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup 115g chopped bacon (about 5 strips)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • You’ll also need puff pastry sheets for wrapping, and candy eyes or small bits of cheese/olive for decorating.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the jalapeños: Slice them in half lengthwise and scoop out seeds and membranes. (For less heat, remove all seeds.)
  3. Mix the filling: In a bowl, combine whipped cream cheese, cheddar jack, bacon, garlic powder, and paprika until smooth and well blended.
  4. Fill the jalapeños: Spoon or pipe the mixture into each halved jalapeño.
  5. Wrap them like mummies: Cut puff pastry into thin strips and wrap around each filled jalapeño, leaving a small gap for “eyes.”
  6. Bake: Place on tray and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until pastry is golden and crisp.
  7. Add the eyes: Once slightly cooled, stick on candy eyes or place small dots of cream cheese topped with olive bits.
  8. Serve warm: Arrange on a platter and watch your spooky little mummies disappear fast!

Notes

  • Active time: 20 minutes (prep and wrapping).
  • Passive time: 20 minutes (baking).
  • If candy eyes aren’t available, small mozzarella dots or cream cheese blobs with olive slices work perfectly.
